Recording Loss: Women Writers on Parental Grief

Seven women writers, including one of the Columbia School of Social Work’s alumni, Alexandra Butler (MSW’10), discuss their feelings of grief in the wake of parental loss. Butler has written a memoir on this theme with Columbia University Press. Her mother, who also has a degree from the Columbia School of Social Work, was a respected psychotherapist. Her father, Robert Butler, was a world-renowned gerontologist, for whom a center on aging is named at the Mailman School of Public Health.
